Malaysian media has warned Vietnam of the danger of forward Syafiq in their World Cup 2022 qualifier this week.

The 24-year-old  Syafiq scored a hat-trick in Malaysia’s 6-0 victory in last week’s friendly against Sri Lanka.

With his stunning form this season, Syafiq will definitely start when Malaysia take on Vietnam in Thursday’s pre-World Cup match in Hanoi, said the New Strait Times.

“The Golden Dragons will probably keep an eye on the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) player, as he is capable of winning matches single-handedly for Malaysia,” wrote the New Strait Times.

Syafiq, who was named man of the match on Saturday, gave an assist to captain Talaha.

“We managed to record our sixth win this year by playing really good football. Although it was only against Sri Lanka, the result does offer the team a boost in confidence ahead of the Vietnam match,” said Syafiq.

“I am playing my best football since returning from injury. I want to maintain this form,” he added.

Malaysia was thrashed by Vietnam at the 2018 AFF Cup, but Syafiq is confident that his team will have a better outcome this time, “Against Vietnam, we have to produce more than we did against Sri Lanka. We need to be consistent and maintain a strong character when we play Vietnam in Hanoi.”
