Despite only waiting for his visa to France, Cong Phuong changed his mind to sign his contract with Belgium side Sint-Truidense.

Cong Phuong is going to sign his contract with Sint-Truidense today July 5. Earlier, HAGL announced Cong Phuong’s new berth was a French second-tier Clermont Foot by the introduction of HAGL former coach Guillaume.

He almost became Clermont Foot player, yet HAGL and Cong Phuong suddenly changed their mind since this club asked Cong Phuong to do a successful one-month trial before signing an official contract.

At the same time, Sint-Truidense approached and invited Cong Phuong to play without a trial month. This European club have many ASEAN players especially Japanese. This will help Cong Phuong get familiar with the new environment easier.

HAGL’s managing director Nguyen Tan Anh reveals: “Cong Phuong was in the radar of many clubs. HAGL considered all the requests and picked Sint-Truidense”.

Belgian media is also very interested in the club's new contract. They knew Cong Phuong when he played for Mito Hollyhock in Japan, a familiar club with Belgian teams. The Nieuwsblad press highly appreciated Cong Phuong's versatility, when he could play well at No. 10, as well as the wingside and striker position.

Cong Phuong is the first Southeast Asian player in history to wear a Limburg team. He is also the second star of Vietnam, after Le Cong Vinh was honored to go to Europe to play football.

Having to play in European football is never easy for Asian players, even stars from Japan and South Korea. Cong Phuong will surely face a lot of difficulties and has to work hard on new training sessions with the hope to win the main kick at the Sint Truidense.
